Democracy in  Knowledge Society: the Analysis of Challenges and Possibilities (e-democracy)

During the last decades there has been much discussion both in Lithuania and in the Western world about the deepening problems of democracy such as diminishing voter turnout, increasing dissatisfaction with political institutions, transformation of politics into a political show. These problems raise the question of the effectiveness and the meaning of the traditional democratic mechanisms in the contemporary society and point to the need to look for new forms of communication between citizens and government, based on the creative use of the opportunities offered by the knowledge society.

The aim of the project is to identify the essential problems of the functioning of democracy in the knowledge society, to assess their scale, to identify the causes behind them and to propose effective solutions based on the new information and communication technologies.
